In 1930, Emil Richterich set up the Confiseriefabrik Richterich & Co. Laufen, from which title the name Ricola was later formed. Confectionery production was commenced in new premises using a coal-fuelled cooking range, copper pots, a cooling table, screw press and a number of coating drums.
