The 1960s were a time of great change and growth. Emil Richterich handed responsibility for the company over to his son Hans Peter. The company of Richterich & Co. Laufen was renamed Ricola and transformed into a joint-stock company. It was at this time, too, that Ricola began exporting its confectionery abroad. Ricola worked intensively on the development of sugar-free products with the aim of offering an alternative for consumers who are obliged or simply wish to do without sugar. At the end of the 1960s, the new factory was built a short distance outside Laufen.
