Paracelsus, Kneipp and the herbalist pastor Künzle prized horehound and its therapeutic effect in disorders of the spleen, liver and lungs and in cases of asthma and bronchitis. Horehound strengthens and stimulates the gastro-intestinal tract, promotes the appetite and the secretion of bile and has a mucolytic effect in cases of bronchial catarrh.

Habitat:

Native of southern Europe, north of the Alps in gardens and occasionally wild, on waste-land, rubble, rocky ground, particularly in Canton Valais.

Active ingredients:

Volatile oil, tannins and bitter principles from the dried flowering plant.
