Mallow is one of the oldest medicinal plants and was a popular tea plant in ancient China more than five thousand years ago. Greek and Roman physicians used mallow to treat both internal and external disorders and it continued to be a popular remedy throughout the Middle Ages. The Romans called it "omnimorbium", the remedy of all illnesses. Mallow has a soothing, antiphlogistic effect in the case of colds and catarrhs of the upper respiratory passages; it is also used as a mild treatment of gastro-intestinal inflammations.
This extremely hardy plant flourishes everywhere in Europe on sunny slopes up to 1500 meters.
